The Board Meeting was called to order at 7:01pm.

The Minutes of the July Board Meeting were approved unanimously.

1.  The Board reviewed the 2003 Budget packet and proxy that will be mailed to all homeowners in advance of the Annual Budget Meeting in September.  The Board agreed to stamp all the enclosed return envelopes to help meet a quorum.

2.  The Board discussed a proposal from Sandy Hodapp to extend the pool season beyond Labor Day into September.  After reviewing the proposal, Jincy Boerner, VP of Community Affairs stated that 2 issues surfaced from this request:  1) the issue of residents placing a petition at the pool with no procedures on this to guide the lifeguards or the Board, and 2) the substance of the request itself.  Jincy indicated that on the pages of the request only the words “NAME” and “ADDRESS” appear with no indication of what someone is signing.  Some persons signed multiple times on different pages, perhaps indicating confusion  about signing into the pool itself, and not intending to sign a “petition.”  Also the cover memo was sent anonymously, instead of clearly indicating the person who was initiating the request.  Jincy suggested that the Board consider adopting procedures for any future petition in a later Board meeting.

Board members discussed the merits of extending the pool season and agreed that the searing hot summer, the excellent job of the lifeguards this year, and the fact that we still have some funds left in the pool budget for the current year allows us some flexibility to extend the season.  Century Pool requires a minimum of 8 hours per day for its lifeguards at $50 per hour.  Because schools will be in session there would be little use of keeping the pool open during the weekdays.  After discussion the Board decided to keep it open on 2 September weekends.

MOTION:  To keep the pool open for 2 weekends in September (Sept 7-8 and Sept. 14-15) at a cost of $1050 per weekend or a total of $2,100 from funds remaining in the current year’s pool budget.  The motion was approved unanimously.

Additionally, it was agreed that the annual dog swim would be moved to Sunday, September 15 from 8:009:00pm---the last hour of the last day of the pool season.

3. MOTION:  To purchase motor for wading pool for approximately $500 to have on hand when defective motor finally conks out.  The motion was approved unanimously.

VICE PRESIDENTS’ REPORTS:

Marilyn Beck, VP of Buildings, reported that she has 3 confirmed  committee members: Chuck Soderlund, Judith Greig and Kirk Otterson.  She will proceed with a meeting to discuss the issue of  exterior exposed wiring for heat pumps.

Jincy Boerner, VP of Community Affairs, stated that the August 24 pool party/barbeque was a great success with many new persons, good food, and improved weather.

Pat Schoen, President, indicated that many shrubs and trees are showing stress related to the long drought and the hot summer weather.  A notice will be placed in the newsletter to encourage homeowners to water foundation plants.

Tom McQuillan, Treasurer, reported that the Treasury Strip  with a maturation date of August 2002 was redeemed, and  placed in the Merrill Lynch account.  Then $10,000 from the money market was transferred back to the operating account to cover a painting invoice.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
