"A Huge Success!!"

Fairlington Fire House 5K Race
Attracts 200 Plus!

Held Saturday, April 14, 2001
"Sponsoring A Child to Burn Camp"

The "First Annual 5K Run", sponsored by Firehouse 7 of the Arlington County Fire Department, attracted more than 200 runners. The weather was perfect for the race which attracted runners from the Arlington County, Alexandria, Fairfax County and Prince William County Fire Departments, along with a host of local residents.

The race was held in Fairlington under sunny skies and comfortable temperatures and was considered a huge success by sponsors and participants alike. Registration took place in the South Fairlington Community Center and trophies were presented in the parking lot next to the North Fairlington Community Center. Winners were declared for men, women and a variety of age groups. A 1K "Fun Run/Walk" was also held for children.

Our local firefighters are donating the proceeds from the race for the Washington Regional Fire and Rescue Departments' Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Program (ACFC). This program sends children to the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp that helps young burn survivors.

Sponsors for the race included: Fairlington Historical Society, Fairlington Villages, Fire Fighters Burn Foundation, International Fire Chiefs Association, Local 2800 of the Arlington Professional Firefighters & Paramedics, Local 2068 of the Fairfax County Professional Firefighters & Paramedics, Arlington County Firefighters, Local 2598 of the Prince William County Professional Firefighters, Freddie Mac, Dan Kain Trophies, Buffalo Grafx, Right Angle Construction, Rock Bottom Restaurant, and The Bungalow Billiards & Brew Co.
