We'll keep you posted on our equipment search. LABOR DAY POOL PARTY. Monday September 4th, 4pm to 7pm. Bring a "south of the border" side dish to share and your happy dancing feet. We'll provide the rest. PING PONG TOURNAMENT. As residents who have visited our pool may have noticed, we now have a ping pong table which seems to be a hit. On Sunday, September 2nd, residents will have a chance to strut their stuff in Ping Pong with the 1st ANNUAL FAIRLINGTON PING PONG TOURNAMENT. There will be three age categories for competition: Children (Age 8 - 12) We will be providing prizes for the top three finishers in the Children and Teenage Groups as well as something for the adult Champion. The entry fee will be $1.00 per contestant. There will be as sign up sheet on the bulletin board by the lifeguard's table. If you need further information or would like to help in this effort please call Arturo Lopez at (703) 379-0736. LOST AND FOUND. A huge set of keys have been waiting for their owner for some time. If you're missing a lot of keys it may well be these. Please check the plastic container by the guard room for any other missing stuff. COURTESY COUNTS. Please be courteous to all swimmers both in and out of the lap lanes. If someone is swimming laps please stay out of the lap lane. Our basketball hoop is a big success. Enjoy your games, and be aware of those around you who may not be playing. If you wish to change the height of the hoop, one of the guards will be happy to do it for you. LANDSCAPE SUBCOMMITTEE The next meeting will be on Saturday, August 19th and will be the annual Fall walk-through. We encourage and invite all residents to join us. We will meet at 8am (no pajamas please) in Court 15. FAIRLINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY The newly established Fairlington Historical Society has scheduled its first annual meeting on Thursday, October 12, 2000, for the purpose of electing a Board of Trustees. Under the organization's Charter (adopted by members of the organizing Committee and the Interim Board on July 6, 2000), only "Charter Members" are eligible to vote in the election for the Board. The meeting will be held at the North Fairlington Community Center at 6:30pm. In order to encourage the largest possible turnout for the election, the Interim Board will consider all attendees at the October 12th meeting as Charter Members if they are residents, unit owners, or former residents. The Charter also requires that voting members must have paid the appropriate dues in order to participate in an election. The Interim Board, however, has waived the dues requirement for this election, permitting all otherwise eligible attendees to vote on October 12th without paying dues. There are five members of the Fairlington Historical Society Board of Trustees. Any one interested in being a candidate for a Board position can either notify Ron Patterson prior to the October 12th meeting or nominate themselves from the floor at the meeting. Feel free to call Ron at (703) 931-0687, send him an email at ronaldp755@aol.com, or drop him a note at 4624 S. 34th Street. At the May 25th meeting, an interim Board of Trustees was named in order to meet application requirements to incorporate within the Commonwealth of Virginia as a non-profit corporation. Named to the interim Board were Sandy Hodapp, James Mailler, David Manning, Ron Patterson, and Terry Placek who will serve until the permanent Board is elected. Articles of Incorporation were approved at the July 6th meeting, mailed to Virginia's State Corporation Commission on July 7th, and approved by Virginia on July 12th. Now that the Society is incorporated, an application for tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) will be filed with the Internal Revenue Service. The next two regular monthly meetings have been scheduled for 6:30pm on Thursday, August 3rd, and Thursday, September 7th, at the North Fairlington Community Center. So, mark your calendars and plan on attending the annual meeting on Thursday, October 12th! CRIME The battle against crime involves both the police and citizens. It is a widely accepted fact that "police can not be everywhere". For this reason, the effective functioning of a police department is dependent on citizen cooperation and their resistance to crime. Many crimes would never be committed if more citizens would be alert to suspicious activity and take it upon themselves to notify the police. We are luck to live in a relatively crime-free area; however, we are not immune. If you see any suspicious activity, please take appropriate action. CHECK FOR LEAKS All residents should periodically check for leaks which cost the Glen a lot of money and may waste several thousands of gallons of water. It is recommended that you inspect your home for visible signs of leaks each quarter. Many leaks are the result of worn washers in household faucets and shower heads. The most substantial loss of water can come from our bathroom toilets:
REMINDERS LABOR DAY. Labor Day is Monday, September 4th. Please do not put trash out since it will not be picked up. Regular trash pickup will continue on Tuesday, September 5th. Have a wonderful holiday weekend. PARKING. Parking in all courts is restricted to lined spaces. Parking is not allowed in court entrances, in fire lanes, or on lawns and sidewalks. Particular care should be taken if you are moving in or out of a unit ... make sure that you do not drive a trailer or other vehicle up on the grass. If you see this happening, please remind the resident and movers that it is not permitted. COMMON AREAS. In order to maintain the quality of the Glen and ensure common areas are maintained in a consistent manner, significant restrictions are in place regarding what residents can do. When in doubt about doing something in common areas such as adding items to the flower beds, leaving personal articles in the common areas, and placing items on fences or having items in the patio area that are visible above the top of the fences, please check the Handbook or call Legum & Norman. HANDBOOK. All residents and co-owners should have a copy of the Fairlington Glen Handbook dated November 1999. Please review it occasionally since it provides essential information to ensure that you and your neighbors enjoy the wonderful experience of living in the Glen. MEETINGS All Glen meetings are held in the Fairlington Community Center at 3308 South Stafford Street. All residents are welcome.
