DECEMBER 13TH BOARD MEETING

EXTERIOR PAINTING. The Board approved a bid from Capital Painting Company for exterior painting of Courts 1-4 at a cost of $56,800.

AUDIT. The Board approved a bid from Singleton & Bardowski, LLC for the auditing of the Glen's financial statements for the next two years at a cost of $3,100 per year.

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE
(Marge Angelo - Chairperson)

JANUARY MEETING. The Buildings and Grounds Committee will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on 16 January. Court Representatives are encouraged to attend since the Committee will be addressing a lot of items provided by the Landscape Subcommittee.

LANDSCAPE SUBCOMMITTEE. Landscape Subcommittee meetings have been changed to the 2nd Tuesday of the month starting in January.

CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP

Christmas trees that you would like to have hauled away should be placed at the curb on Tuesdays and Thursdays by 8am. Pickups will be made on January 2nd, 4th, 9th, and 11th. After January 11th you will be responsible for disposing of them, so your cooperation would be appreciated.

CRIME

The battle against crime involves both the police and citizens. It is a widely accepted fact that "police can not be everywhere". For this reason, the effective functioning of a police department is dependent on citizen cooperation and their resistance to crime. Many crimes would never be committed if more citizens would be alert to suspicious activity and take it upon themselves to notify the police. We are luck to live in a relatively crime-free area; however, we are not immune. If you see any suspicious activity, please take appropriate action.

DRYER VENTS

After checking with various contractors, Legum & Norman was unable to establish a group rate for cleaning close dryer vents since access to the applicable units on specific dates could not be guaranteed. However, indications are that the best price for this service is currently $50 and is being offered by Danny Johnstone who is trading as Fairlington Repair at 703-998-3148.

RICKY'S CORNER
  • Preventive maintenance of the problem sewer laterals has been completed. Any problems with sewer laterals should be reported to Ricky as soon as possible. Please help us avoid sewer backups by not putting sanitary napkins, dental floss, baby wipes, paper towels, condoms, tampons, or diapers down the commode.
  • Red reflectors have been attached to the fire hydrants in the Glen to enhance their identification during snow clearing efforts and to inform residents of their location so they will know not to park in front of them.
  • The gutters were cleaned during October and November. If you note a problem with leaf accumulation in a gutter, Ricky and the crew are on call.
  • Ricky and the crew want to thank everyone for working with them to make the Glen an outstanding place to live, and wish all residents and co-owners a happy and festive holiday season.

REMINDERS

CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR'S TRASH PICKUP. Christmas Day is Monday December 25th and New Year's Day is Monday January 1st. Please do not put trash out on these days since it will not be picked up. Regular trash pickup will continue on Tuesday December 26th and Tuesday January 2nd. Have a wonderful holiday season.

TRASH PICKUP FOR MAJOR ITEMS. Large items that you need to dispose of will be picked up on the first Saturday of every month. They must be placed on the curb at the street by 9 a.m. These pickups are free. Please do not put large items out at any other time ... THEY WILL NOT BE PICKED UP.

CONDO FEE BOOK. Legum & Norman has mailed out the 2001 condo fee books. If you have not received your's, please call Barbara Walsh at 703-848-4332.

SATELLITE DISHES. Any co-owner wishing to install a satellite dish or other exterior antenna must submit an application to the Board for approval. The satellite dish or antenna can not be installed such that any portion shows above the top of the fence or is attached to any portion of the unit (both brick and windows).

PARKING. Parking spaces in the courtyards are assigned to residents for their sole use. There have been instances where contractors and delivery personnel park in the courtyards while conducting their business. Please inform these personnel that the parking spaces are reserved and they need to park in the street. In addition, with the holiday season upon us, many residents will be inviting guests to participate in the festivities. Please make sure they are aware that the parking spaces are reserved. This small courtesy to your neighbors goes a long way.

VARIANCES. Changes to a unit, including both exterior appearance and interior structural modifications, require permission from the Board prior to the start of work. If you desire to make any changes to your unit, please refer to Chapter 5 of the Fairlington Glen Handbook. If there is any doubt regarding the need for a variance, please check with the applicable individuals listed in the Handbook before taking action.

REPORTING PROBLEMS. If you have a problem or concern, you can contact the Ricky and the chairpersons of the Landscape Subcommittee and the Pool Committee by calling 703-820-9567. You can leave a message by pressing "1" for the Landscape Subcommittee, "2" for the Pool Committee, and "9" for Ricky. Please be courteous and don't call these people at home ... they will take care of your concerns as soon as possible. If you have an emergency maintenance problem and can not reach Ricky, please call the Legum & Norman 24-hour emergency repair number ... 703-734-0900

HANDBOOK. All residents and co-owners should have a copy of the Fairlington Glen Handbook dated November 1999. Please review it occasionally since it provides essential information to ensure that you and your neighbors enjoy the wonderful experience of living in the Glen. Click HERE for the Handbook on the web.
