POOL PARTY

It's time for the Fairlington Glen Pool Party!! Come start the summer with a SPLASH! The part will be Sunday, June 4th from 4-7pm (rain date is Sunday, June 11th). Please bring a dish to share (hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks will be provided) and be prepared for good food, fun, games, friends, and a great time! This year, the Pool Committee is hoping to update our collection of pool toys. If you'd like to help, please bring a toy (noodle, ball, baby pool toy, etc.) or a cash donation to the party. Thanks for your help -- see you at the party!!

While you're at the pool party please stop by the information table to find out what's going on in the Glen, which of your neighbors are involved in Glen-related efforts, and the areas where additional volunteers are needed. For example, the Security Committee needs new members to help keep the Glen safe, some courts need court representatives and alternates, and other committees can use additional help throughout the year. Please come by and see how you can help!

POOL NEWS
(Kari Doyle ... Pool Committee Chairperson)

ACTIVITY CARDS AND POOL RULES. Everyone should have received their activity card and a copy of the pool rules. Please review the rules with your household. Activity cards must come with you to the pool!

GO BEFORE YOU GO! Sometimes with the excitement of going to the pool, young children get involved in water play and forget to go to the bathroom. Unfortunately accidents happen. Should an accident occur in the pool, by law the pool must be shut down for 8 hours. All babies and toddlers must wear swim diapers or rubber pants with elastic bands around the legs and waist to protect their friends in the water.

GLEN SWIM LESSONS. World Pool Service will offer group swim lessons beginning the week of June 26th. They will be two week, Monday-Friday, sessions with the first day being a screening day, followed by eight instructional days, and the final day as a make-up day, if needed, or a fun/safety day. Each participant will receive an individual evaluation at the end of the session. Classes are not held when it is raining. The cost of the program is $45 with payment at the first day of each session. Check at the pool office beginning Saturday, June 3rd, for the registration book with session dates, times, and sign-up information. Private, individual swim lessons will also be offered.

FAIRLINGTON FINS SWIM TEAM 2000

Don't forget to sign up for the Fairlington FINS! We are looking forward to an exciting season of swimming this year. The Fairlington FINS, for children 5-14, runs from July 10th to August 4th with practices Monday-Thursday 3:30 to 5:15 pm and meets on Friday evenings. The cost is $35 per child till June 12th and $40 after that. For more information and registration forms look in the June issue of the All Fairlington Bulletin or contact Sue Shapiro at 671-4098, email dsha441642@aol.com. We are looking for lane lines, backstroke flags and kickboards. Anyone who can help with these items please contact Sue.

STREET TREES

Our beautiful street trees need tender and loving care if they are to remain healthy ... many of them are already ailing. Please take the time to water them whenever you can. They are add significantly to the overall look of the Glen and it would be a shame to lose them because of neglect.

BUDGET COMMITTEE

It's time for the Budget Committee to start work on the Glen budget for next year. The first meeting will be held on June 15th at 7pm in Room 6 at the Fairlington Community Center. Anyone interested in participating should call Pat Phillips at 703-671-0868.

OUTSIDE LIGHTS

All residents should consider leaving their front and back porch lights on at night to deter criminals, and make sure their home numbers are not obscured by plantings to make it easier for emergency personnel to locate their units. The Board is considering hiring a contractor for the bulk purchase and installation of automatic timers on front and back porch light switches at the expense and request of the homeowner. If you are interested, contact Michelle Casciato prior to July 1st by email (mcasciato@legumnorman.com) or phone (703-848-4326).

DRYER VENTS

Remember to clean out your dryer vents periodically. Failure to do so creates a potential fire hazard and decreases dryer efficiency. Air duct and chimney sweep companies perform this type of work. The Board is considering hiring a contractor to respond to resident requests for cleaning out dryer vents at a reduced cost to the resident. If you are interested contact Michelle Casciato prior to July 1st by email (mcasciato@legumnorman.com) or phone (703-848-4326).

RICKY'S CORNER
  • Probably due to the nice weather the painting, concrete replacement, and chimney cap efforts are all underway and moving along well. I hope these multiple efforts have not been disruptive to anyone.
  • Contractors doing remodeling work are leaving construction debris for our trash collectors to pick up. This is prohibited. Our trash collectors will not pick up this debris and it costs time and money for the Glen to do it. Please inform your contractors that they must dispose of their own debris. If we are forced to remove a contractor's debris, we will charge an expensive fee for a special pickup to the owner of the unit being worked on.
  • There are indications that contractors working in other villages may be leaving construction debris in the Glen. If you see any suspected instances of this, please note who is leaving the debris and let me know.
  • The cleaning of gutters will continue in early-June with Courts 12-15 next on the schedule. Concrete replacement is essentially complete in Courts 9-16 and the second phase of this effort for Courts 1-8 will start shortly. Painting will also continue into June.

The crew wishes everyone a happy Spring and Summer!

REMINDERS

INDEPENDENCE DAY. Independence Day is Tuesday, July 4th. Please do not put trash out since it will not be picked up. Regular trash pickup will continue on Wednesday, July 5th. Have a wonderful holiday.

DOG OWNERS. Please remember to scoop your poop and bag it! There are trash receptacles throughout the Glen where the bagged poop can be deposited.

ILLEGAL PARKING. Towing is only allowed from your assigned parking space. You must have a towing code (call Barbara Walsh at 703-848-4332). Cars parked on the grass, double parked, parked in the entrances to the courts, or impeding the flow of traffic in the courts can only be towed by a Board member or an agent of Legum and Norman. Note that parking in front of the handicapped ramps to the sidewalks could result in a ticket from the Arlington Police, so play it safe and don't park there.

EXTERIOR RODENT AND PEST CONTROL. The Glen has a contract with Triple "S" for exterior rodent control problems only. If you see mouse or rat droppings or have actually seen the critters, call 703-352-7738 and ask to speak to P.J. Gilmer. Do not call Ricky. Please do not try to get rid of them yourself; you may end up destroying wildlife which is harmless to you and the community. If you have an exterior general pest control problem (ants, termites, bees, wasps, yellow jackets, etc.) please call the maintenance office and leave a message for Ricky.

HANDBOOK. All residents and co-owners should have a copy of the Fairlington Glen Handbook dated November 1999. Please review it occasionally since it provides essential information to ensure that you and your neighbors enjoy the wonderful experience of living in the Glen.
