Fairlington Glen Newsletter BOARD VACANCY Missy Giles has resigned from the Glen Board, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her efforts on behalf of Fairlington Glen. There are now two Board vacancies. Please let Mike Hahn (703-578-3138) know by March 14 if you are interested in serving. On March 28, the Board will select one person for B&G liaison, who is responsible for attending monthly B&G meetings, and another for secretary, who is responsible for the monthly Glen newsletter. These two positions will expire this November and will be filled through elections in November. Those elected will serve three-year terms. AD HOC COMMITTEE ON POOL AREA ISSUES ... Paul Greenfield and Kari Doyle We have some major decisions to make, and we can't make them alone. Our pool, recreational, and maintenance areas are in need of a long-term plan. This falls under preventative maintenance and beautification, which help to preserve property values. As we see it, minimally, we are in need of a five-year plan and optimally of a ten-year plan to address the focal point of our community. Listed below are some of the concerns that we will look at sooner rather than later:
These are issues we have identified. Your input and participation will be greatly appreciated. Have an impact on how your money is being spent. Please respond at your earliest convenience to: ad hoc committee: addressing pool area needs - Paul Greenfield, 4112 S. 36th St., green31@msn.com or paul.greenfield@longandfoster.com (or) Kari Doyle, 4223 S. 36th St., kariboe@aol.com LANDSCAPE NEWS ... Kristen Thompson The landscape committee's spring walk through will be held Saturday, March 11, at 8:00 a.m. Anyone interested in joining the committee should meet in Court 4 promptly at 8:00 a.m. Please remember that due to our recent dry and harsh summers, we have not been planting in the spring or summer...the majority of our planting for 2000 will be considered this fall. The landscape meetings are held the last Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m at the Fairlington Community Center. We invite the residents of the Glen to attend the meetings and get involved. RICKY'S CORNER The crew will be identifying concrete work that needs to be done on the sidewalks this spring. This week, the crew will be making brick repairs on the front porches. Kitchen sink sewer lines are the responsibility of the owner. Be aware that many of these lines are shared by two or more residents in B-Buildings. If you have a backup in the kitchen sink, call a plumber so that he can determine where the backup is. Residents of the Glen -- we really need your cooperation and support on a matter which has become increasingly more serious. Many of you are remodeling/having construction work done in your homes or will be doing so in the future. Please emphasize to your contractors that they are responsible for taking away their debris. Our trash company will not haul this away. This means that the Glen has to remove this at your expense, and I have to spend time trying to find a site that will accept this type of debris. I have had to go as far away as Lorton to get rid of some of this construction trash. This takes away time that I need to spend on other Glen concerns. Please monitor your contractors so that no debris is left on Glen property. NEW POOL AND LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE PHONE NUMBERS Because the landscape and pool committee chairs get a large number of calls at their homes each year, we have instituted a new system for handling people's concerns, comments, and complaints. Instead of calling the individual chairs or other members of the committees, please call 703-820-9567. Punch "1" to leave a message for the landscape committee; punch "2" to leave a message for the pool committee. Of course, in emergency situations, call Legum and Norman or a Board member. Your cooperation in this new endeavor is appreciated. FAIRLINGTON GLEN ENTERS CYBERSPACE!
