Text Box: We present you with an abbreviated Glen Echo this month, not because there is nothing going on, but because things are moving at too fast a pace to write long articles. The following are some of the things happening this month:
The Board met on April 4 and addressed several important items. Lisa Driskill reported on the ideas which the Tot Lot Task Group has identified in their review of that busy segment of our common backyard. They have a thorough list running from updating the safety of the site to adding new equipment. They plan to come back in May with a list of options and associated costs.
Our new Legum & Norman management agent, Andrew Barnes, attended the meeting along with April Ludke who took over in February. April has relocated to L&N's new office near Dulles, which is nearer to her home. Also in attendance from L&N was Barry Barrett, who oversees our contract.
Coincidentally, we discussed the fact that we plan to put out a request for proposals for our management contract beginning in the summer. Our current contract extends through December. This is not to suggest we plan to change management companies. Rather we want to take this opportunity to formalize our list of requirements and assess the market for management services. Mr. Barrett assured the Board that Legum and Norman is sure to bid to continue to work with the Glen.
The Board discussed the need to update our list of sewer lateral clean-outs. We had a problem in Court 15 which took place on a line for which the clean-out is located in the resident's basement. The Board is asking court reps to contact all residents who have a clean-out in their basement to find out whether it is accessible and to take steps to insure that future problems are minimized.
We welcome back World Pool for the summer season at the Glen Pool. Budget constraints have forced us to ask the Pool Committee to consider scheduling changes to help us save some money while maintaining our very satisfactory relationship with this contractor. The pool contract will total $31,524 for 2006.
As we mentioned last month, after much hard thought and with some reluctance, we changes landscape contracts to Environmental Enhancements. The landscape contract will total $65,000 for 2006, which is a very significant savings over the proposal from Living Colour. Landscape work has begun this week.
We also have continued our contractual relationships with Goldklang, Cavenaugh, our auditors and with Restoration Engineering which has given us a great deal of consulting assistance on roofs, masonry and stoops. They will be reviewing the condition of our parking lots this spring.
We welcome Ricky back from his vacation to Bolivia where he was visiting with family.
