Fairlington Glen
The Board approved a proposal from Living Colour for enhancements to the garden located between Courts 10 and 11 including removal of the roses and installation of a Magnolia, Liriope, and Shrub Roses at a cost of $1,595.
We still need someone with an interest in serving the community to volunteer as the Chairperson of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, If you are interested, please contact Mike Hahn. Until a Chairperson is identified, please inform Paul Greenfield and John Fuller of any change in Court Representatives or Alternates.
The coupons for payment of condominium fees during 2003 will be mailed out shortly and should be delivered in time for your January payment. If you do not receive your coupons by the end of December, please call Barbara Walsh at Legum & Norman (703-848-4332).
Unless you live in a Braddock, please secure your outside faucets (front and back) in order to prevent burst water pipes when the temperature drops and the weather remains cold. In the Barcroft units there is one valve to control both faucets located above the hot water heater in the utility room. For other units there are two valves ... one behind the disposal under the sink for the patio faucet and one over the hot water heater in the utility room for the front faucet. To shut off the water, turn the valves off inside the unit and open the valves outside in order to drain the pipes and keep them from freezing. Leave the heat in your unit on to at least 55 degrees (even when you are away) to prevent broken pipes.
Please be considerate of your neighbors regarding excessive noise, especially during the evening hours, in order to keep our community a pleasant and peaceful place for everyone.
Christmas trees that you would like to have hauled away should be placed at the curb on Tuesdays and Thursdays by 8am. Pickups will be made on January 2nd, 7th, 9th, and 14th. After January 14th you will be responsible for disposing of them, so your cooperation would be appreciated.
If you plan on purchasing a satellite dish or other antenna during the holidays, please note that the rules have not changed ... an application must be submitted to the Board for approval and the satellite dish or antenna can not be installed such that any portion shows above the top of the fence or is attached to any portion of the unit (both brick and windows). All units with dishes or antennas visible above the fence line have been contacted about their rule violation.
Dominion Power will be doing tree pruning and brush clearing throughout Fairlington over the next several weeks. They have contracted with Asplundh Tree Expert Company to do the work, and follow the guidelines of the National Arborist Association and the American National Standards Institute. The work will be done near the primary power lines, not any service drops.
The battle against crime involves both the police and citizens ... police can not be everywhere. The effective functioning of a police department is dependent on citizen cooperation and their resistance to crime. Many crimes would never be committed if more citizens would be alert to suspicious activity and take it upon themselves to notify the police. We live in a relatively crime-free area but we are not immune. If you see any suspicious activity, please take appropriate action.
