FALL PLANTINGS. The Board approved a proposal from Living Colour for Fall plantings at an approximate cost of $5,500 (final cost dependent on the incorporation of modifications directed by the Board). POOL NEWS The 2001 Glen Pool season was a great success. Thanks to everyone for making it possible. We on the Pool Committee see our pool not only as a place to swim, but to gather as a community. This year we saw more pool yes then ever. Whether in the pool, at the Fooz Ball Table, or playing a superior game of Ping Pong, our pool was put to good use. It also proved to be a great place to gather with neighbors and family for pool side dinners. The "South of the Border" party was again a huge success. A great variety of delicious food was provided by all in attendance, and let's not forget our favorite band, "The Old Kids on the Block". Thank you Anna Aiscorbe for bringing your band to the Glen (and for allowing Paul G. to perform)! We have a world of talent in our back yard. And finally ... the last day, the final 15 minutes of pool time ... the Dog Swim was a blast to watch! Thanks to Zoe for readying the water for those other courageous canines. We wish you all a safe and peaceful Winter, and look forward to seeing you all next year at the pool! The Annual Meeting will be held on November 8th in the Fairlington Community Center. You should have received your meeting package including proxy forms. Please return the proxy forms as soon as possible, whether or not you plan on attending, to ensure the necessary quorum to conduct business. Proxies must be sent to Legum & Norman by October 25th or given to your Court Representative, Ricky, or a Board member before the meeting. Please follow the instructions for completing the proxy since failure to do so will disqualify it. Your proxy is important, so please return it promptly. Please note that the Glen's insurance deductible has increased from $1,000 to $2,500 per occurrence as a result of the increasingly difficult insurance market. This means that the bulk of insurance claims in the Glen will fall on co-owners, since most of the Glen's claims are less than $2,500. Each owner needs to contact their insurance agent to make sure that they have adequate coverage to cover this deductible in the event of a loss. Resident owners should carry an HO-6 policy, and non-resident owners should carry coverage as well. Make sure that you also have a flood rider and a sewer backup rider (usually about $25 per year) to cover the most common causes of loss.
ALLEYS. The alleys between courts are there for maintenance and emergency access. While residents can use the alleys for moving items from vehicles to units, parking for any length of time is prohibited and the vehicles are subject to being towed without notice. COMMON AREA TREES. Trees in the common areas will be maintained by the Glen and its contractors, and residents are not authorized to prune them. In addition, these trees are not to be used as for recreation ... do not hang swings from them and see that your children are not climbing or defacing them. If a problem is detected, please notify the Landscape Subcommittee. EXTERIOR RODENT AND PEST CONTROL. The Glen has a contract with Triple "S" for exterior rodent control problems only. If you see mouse or rat droppings or have actually seen the critters, call 703-352-7738 and ask to speak to P.J. Gilmer. Do not call Ricky. Please do not try to get rid of them yourself; you may end up destroying wildlife which is harmless to you and the community. If you have an exterior general pest control problem (ants, termites, bees, wasps, yellow jackets, etc.) please call the maintenance office and leave a message for Ricky. REPORTING PROBLEMS. If you have a problem or concern, you can contact the Ricky and the chairpersons of the Landscape Subcommittee and the Pool Committee by calling 703-820-9567. You can leave a message by pressing "1" for the Landscape Subcommittee, "2" for the Pool Committee, and "9" for Ricky. Please be courteous and don't call these people at home ... they will take care of your concerns as soon as possible. If you have an emergency maintenance problem and can not reach Ricky, please call the Legum & Norman 24-hour emergency repair number ... 703-600-6000 HANDBOOK. All residents and co-owners should have a copy of the Fairlington Glen Handbook dated November 1999. Please review it occasionally since it provides essential information to ensure that you and your neighbors enjoy the wonderful experience of living in the Glen. MEETINGS All Glen meetings are held in the Fairlington Community Center at 3308 South Stafford Street. All residents are welcome.
