APRIL 3RD BOARD MEETING

The meeting was long and productive with a number of interested co-owners in attendance; however, there were no significant actions affecting the community as a whole. It was noted that the list of court reps provided in the March Newsletter was out-of-date due to a Senior Moment on the part of the Board Secretary. An updated list can be found on the back of this Newsletter.

RICKY'S CORNER
  • Work is underway on replacing the Court 9 sewer. Please be patient, this effort will be completed shortly.
  • The shutters in Courts 1-4 are being removed to allow for efficient painting of the courts. New shutters will be installed once the painting is completed.
  • The maintenance crew and the Board point-of-contact are working with the painting contractor to assess status of Courts 1-4 prior to painting. Flyers will be sent out a week ahead of the painting of your unit. Among other things, the maintenance crew will ensure that wooden window frames are properly scraped and painted.
  • Preventive maintenance of all sewers will be conducted in April.
  • In late-April we will be cleaning all of the gutters.
  • If you detect any leaks from the outside faucets when you turn on the water, please remember that repairs are a co-owner responsibility.
REMINDERS

TRASH PICKUP FOR MAJOR ITEMS. Large items that you need to dispose of will be picked up on the first Saturday of every month. They must be placed on the curb at the street by 9 a.m. These pickups are free. Please do not put large items out at any other time ... THEY WILL NOT BE PICKED UP.

SEWER LINES. Sewer backups are an unpleasant occurrence and Ricky and his crew do everything possible to ensure they are an infrequent one. However, we need to support his efforts by keeping items that contribute to sewer blockages and backups out of the sewer system. Please be considerate by not putting sanitary napkins, dental floss, baby wipes, paper towels, condoms, tampons, or diapers down the commode. In addition, please inform your guests, house sitters, babysitters, etc. that our sewer lines are fragile and must be treated accordingly. If you experience a sewer backup, the Glen's insurance policy only covers the cleanup of this mess. Any damage caused by this unfortunate incident is the residents' responsibility so please check your insurance policies to make sure that you will be covered for the replacement value of items if such an emergency occurs.

SPRING SPRUCEUP. Now that Spring is upon us and folks are out and about, we should spruce things up a bit. Residents might want to consider replacing worn doormats and picking up hoses or other items strewn in plant beds. In addition, personal items (e.g., bicycles, scooters, baby carriages, toys) left in the common areas or on the front porches are unsightly and detract from the enjoyment of the community by your neighbors. Please make sure that these items are put away as soon as possible after use.

PATIO TRASH. Spring has arrived and we really appreciate residents taking care of their patios. However, please remember that any debris and trash placed outside the patio gate, near the community trash barrels, and on the lawn will not be picked up. Please keep these items in your patio overnight and place them in front of your unit for the morning trash pickup. Remember courtesy is contagious ... please be considerate of your neighbors and help to maintain the looks of the Glen.

RED REFLECTORS. Now that spring is here, our landscape contractor will be a frequent and welcome presence. If you do not want the contractor to prune the shrubs around your unit, put a red reflector in the front bed. The contractor will continue to perform routine mulching and weeding, but shrub maintenance becomes a co-owner responsibility. If the shrubs are not properly maintained, the co-owner will be notified and will have 30 days to perform the necessary maintenance. If this is not done, the contractor will be directed to maintain the shrubs at the co-owner's expense.

COMMON AREA TREES. Trees in the common areas will be maintained by the Glen and its contractors, and residents are not authorized to prune them. In addition, these trees are not to be used as for recreation ... do not hang swings from them and see that your children are not climbing or defacing them. If a problem is detected, please notify the Landscape Subcommittee.

SIDEWALKS. Many parents allow their children to draw on the sidewalks with chalk. This is acceptable; however, please ensure that the chalk is washed off the sidewalks once your children have finished their artistic endeavors.

REPORTING PROBLEMS. If you have a problem or concern, you can contact the Ricky and the chairpersons of the Landscape Subcommittee and the Pool Committee by calling 703-820-9567. You can leave a message by pressing "1" for the Landscape Subcommittee, "2" for the Pool Committee, and "9" for Ricky. Please be courteous and don't call these people at home ... they will take care of your concerns as soon as possible. If you have an emergency maintenance problem and can not reach Ricky, please call the Legum & Norman 24-hour emergency repair number ... 703-734-0900

HANDBOOK. All residents and co-owners should have a copy of the Fairlington Glen Handbook dated November 1999. Please review it occasionally since it provides essential information to ensure that you and your neighbors enjoy the wonderful experience of living in the Glen. Click HERE for the Handbook on the web.
