BOARD MEETING SUPPORT

The Board is looking for a responsible individual to prepare the minutes of the monthly Board Meetings. The meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of the month and last approximately two hours. Minutes generally run no more than five pages and need to be provided in draft form within a week. The Board will provide compensation for these efforts.

COMCAST

The Board shares the concerns of Glen residents regarding problems associated with the ongoing Comcast cable installations. These concerns have been addressed by Paul Ferguson, Arlington County Board Member, who is working with all of Fairlington to resolve outstanding issues. Some of the actions that have taken place are as follows:

  1. January meeting attended by Paul Ferguson, Comcast, and Glen residents to discuss problem areas.
  2. January letter from the Board President to the Arlington County Board.
  3. February letter from Paul Ferguson to the Board President ... Paul also wrote a recent article on the subject for the All Fairlington Bulletin.

A walkthrough of the Glen by the Management Agent, the Board, and Comcast will be scheduled to assess issues. Residents should email their complaints to Michelle Casciato at mcasciato@legumnorman.com as soon as possible.

While the Board generally does not include correspondence in the Newsletter, an exception has been made due to the great interest in this situation. The two letters discussed above are therefore attached. We will continue to stay on top of this problem and make every effort to reduce the impact on the Glen, and will keep residents informed of related actions.

RICKY'S CORNER
  1. Roofs in Courts 8 and 10 are being replaced. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working to keep the impact to a minimum. In particular, we are reminding the contractor on a daily basis to remove debris and restore areas at the end of each day's work.
  2. The replacement of the Court 9 sewer line should commence next month. We will do everything possible to reduce the impact on the residents of the court, so please bear with us.
  3. Painting of Courts 1-4 will commence in the spring. We will remove the shutters prior to the start of painting and will install new shutters once the painting is completed. Approximately 800 shutters will be replaced.
  4. We will be installing new trash cans throughout the Glen. Five of the new cans have been received and will soon be installed on concrete bases.
  5. Monthly preventive maintenance of sewer lines continues. We have had very few problems lately; however, all residents need to remember that only sanitary waste should be put in the commodes.
  6. We will be checking the court light posts at the rate of 1-2 courts a month and cleaning/repairing as necessary. Please let us know of any problems.
  7. The gutters should be clear of leaf and other debris; however, if you feel that your gutters or downspouts need to be cleaned, please let us know.

REMINDERS

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS. The Glen looked beautiful during the holidays! Now that the season has passed, please take down your decorations.

CROWS. There are concerns regarding the large crow population and their noise and garbage bag destruction. The most effective way to combat this problem is to remove their source of food. Some measures that residents can take is to put food items in a separate plastic bag before putting it in the garbage bag so the crows can't smell it, and ensure that garbage bags are only put out in the mornings.

STREET PARKING. Parking is a bit tight in the Glen, so please be considerate of the other residents and try to maximize street parking. When you park on the street, park as close as you can to the cars in front or in back of you. While you need to allow for a bit of maneuvering room, there is no need to leave a 10-foot gap between you and the other parked cars.

REPORTING PROBLEMS. If you have a problem or concern, you can contact the Ricky and the chairpersons of the Landscape Subcommittee and the Pool Committee by calling 703-820-9567. You can leave a message by pressing "1" for the Landscape Subcommittee, "2" for the Pool Committee, and "9" for Ricky. Please be courteous and don't call these people at home ... they will take care of your concerns as soon as possible. If you have an emergency maintenance problem and can not reach Ricky, please call the Legum & Norman 24-hour emergency repair number ... 703-734-0900

HANDBOOK. All residents and co-owners should have a copy of the Fairlington Glen Handbook dated November 1999. Please review it occasionally since it provides essential information to ensure that you and your neighbors enjoy the wonderful experience of living in the Glen. Click HERE for the Handbook on the web.
