Green Leaves BOARD NOTES The next Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 16 in the Fairlington Community Center at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. If you want to be placed on the agenda, please contact Sher Opal, (703) 848-4339. YOU'RE APPRECIATED... A very big THANK YOU to all of the individuals who help with the distribution of this newsletter. Our call for help in December did net two additional volunteers - thanks for donating your time! UPCOMING MAINTENANCE Just to give you a heads up - planning is underway for resurfacing parking areas around the Green. At the same time, new signs will be put in place which will include street addresses (a definite help for visitors, delivery people and cab drivers). This work will take place in the Spring and will probably take a day or two. You will be notified of the dates and times that parking will be unavailable on the parking lots. Your cooperation in moving your vehicle will be greatly appreciated. BRR! - DIGGING OUT Winter has definitely been with us during this past month. Overall it appears that snow removal went quite well in the Green. While the crews work hard and try to get paths dug for everyone, we still recommend that you keep a shovel and salt or ice melting chemical on hand. Legum and Norman maintains a list of individuals who may have special difficulties during times of snow and ice (for example, the disabled or elderly). The snow removal crews will be sure that these people receive the assistance they need. Please contact Sher Opal to be placed on the list. And, of course, we can all help by being good neighbors - checking on those who may need assistance, keeping shoveled walkways clear, sprinkling a little salt on icy patches to help melting, etc. WINTER LANDSCAPE WORK While some of us are just beginning to dream of Spring flowers and peruse gardening catalogues, the landscape crew is hard at work pruning trees throughout the Green. You may have noticed piles of limbs around the property. This is part of the normal cycle of tree maintenance. If you have a concern about a particular tree, please contact Legum and Norman. TRASH TALK Just a reminder - there is no trash removal scheduled for President's Day (February 21st). LIGHTS ON!! Our thanks to all of you who turn on porch and patio lights. It gives the Green a warm, safe, welcoming feeling at night! If you spot a carriage/pole light that is out, please report it to Jerry and Joan Kindred at 931-6458. Jerry and Joan walk the property regularly and keep an eye out for such problems. Thank you, Joan and Jerry!
